About Us
Company Background
The idea of American Genetics Export Services began back in 1994 when the original company, American Genetics International, was established by Luis “Lou” Rocha (President) and Cherie Derouin (Vice President). Between the two of them, they had over 60 years of experience in the livestock export industry. American Genetics International focused on international marketing of all types of livestock genetics. Exports over the years including everything from horses, dairy & beef cattle, sheep & goats, semen & embryos as well as chinchillas, rabbits, day-old baby chicks, bison, zorses (zebra horse crosses) and even ostrich eggs.
Lou started in the livestock industry in 1986. His expertise was in sales and marketing, working with buyers to determine the type of genetics needed, finding those genetics throughout the USA and then negotiating the purchase between the buyer and seller. He thrived on meeting the needs of both the buyer and seller and loved everything about the challenge – from standing out in cow pastures in the freezing rain with buyers to promoting U.S. genetics at international livestock shows.
Cherie was introduced to livestock exports in 1979 when she began working for a company in California that had several Holstein dairies, a feedlot and an export division. After moving to Texas in 1990, while she often found herself standing in the freezing cow pastures and working livestock shows, her area of expertise has always been the documentation and shipment logistics, working with sellers, their vets, the airlines, trucking and insurance company to bring all of the pieces of the puzzle together for a successful shipment.
Over the years, many conversations were held about refocusing American Genetics International and concentrating more on export management and less on international marketing. As a result of those conversations and in recognition of the many years spent in the industry building up the name and reputation of American Genetics, after Lou passed away in 2016, Cherie made the decision to restructure the company so it more accurately described the services being provided goiing forward and “American Genetics Export Services” was established.
So, while a new company was established, much remains the same. The contact details are the same and Cherie still does what she’s been doing since 1979 . . . organizing and coordinating the export of all types of livestock genetics to ensure that they are delivered to the importing buyer exactly as promised.
